Our Approach

Our training is calm, consistent, and tailored to the individual.

We take the time to understand each horse—how they move, how they think, and what they need to progress confidently. There are no shortcuts, and no one-size-fits-all methods.

Supported by on-site expertise in equine welfare, along with visiting professionals in hoof care and bodywork, every horse benefits from a well-rounded, considered program.

The result is a horse that is not only capable, but relaxed, responsive, and prepared for a long-term partnership.

  • Located in Hunterville, we proudly work with horse owners across Palmerston North, Feilding, Ashhurst, Marton, and surrounding regions.

Experience, to me, isn’t just time—it’s the depth of understanding built through working with a wide range of horses, every day.

My approach is shaped by a strong foundation in biomechanics, natural horsemanship, and a whole-horse perspective. Each horse is assessed as an individual, with careful attention to both their physical comfort and mental state.

I place a high value on recognising when something isn’t quite right. When needed, I work alongside trusted professionals to ensure your horse receives the appropriate care—because good training starts with a horse that feels and functions well.

Every program is tailored to support the horse in front of me, allowing them to progress with confidence, clarity, and trust.

  • A structured, ethical approach to starting horses under saddle—focused on developing confidence, softness, and responsiveness from day one. Every horse is given the time, consistency, and individual attention needed to create a solid foundation for the future.

  • By understanding how the horse moves, we train in a way that supports balance, soundness, and long-term physical wellbeing—setting each horse up for lasting performance and comfort.

  • Backed by experience with young horses, sales prospects, and more complex cases, every program is thoughtfully tailored to the individual—supporting each horse’s temperament, learning style, and stage of development.

At Meraki Equine Ltd, we focus on developing horses that are confident, responsive, and enjoyable to ride—whether they’re just starting out or continuing their education.

Our approach blends traditional horsemanship with modern, evidence-based training, ensuring every horse is supported both physically and mentally throughout their journey.

Horses have always been at the centre of Peta’s life.

Growing up in Whakatāne, she was fortunate to have endless space to ride and learn—though those early days came with their fair share of challenges. From green horses to long rides just to tack up, it was a hands-on education in patience, resilience, and understanding the horse in front of you.

Those experiences shaped the foundation of Meraki Equine Ltd: a commitment to doing things properly, listening to the horse, and creating training that lasts.

Today, that same passion drives a professional, thoughtful approach to developing horses and supporting their riders.
